KIA ORA! WELCOME!
This page will provide you with basic information about the structure and aims of the
New Zealand Indoor Rowing Association Incorporated.
It will also draw your attention to the benefits of joining the Association, apart
from the help that members' subscriptions provide in meeting the ever present costs of the
sport that we all enjoy.
The New Zealand Indoor Rowing Association is a non-profit incorporated society
dedicated to the growth and presentation of the sport of indoor rowing. It is
administered by an annually elected executive committee of six headed by a President,
Secretary and Treasurer. The day-to-day running of the organisation is undertaken on
contract by a sports' management company answerable to the NZIRA executive. The society's
operating costs are met by membership fees, donations, competition entry fees,
sponsorship and grants from charitable trusts.
A major grant from just such a charitable
trust in 2005 allowed us to purchase the eight-tonne Mitsubishi truck pictured here. The
truck is used to transport rowing machines, race system, computers, data projector, movie
screens and personnel to major competitions all over New Zealand.
Benefits of membership in The New Zealand Indoor Rowing Association Incorporated:
- A paid up member of the NZIRA is entitled to vote at the A.G.M. or stand for office.
Your input could therefore affect and shape the society's future. Postal and telephone
voting on the election of officers and rule changes is permitted under the constitution.
- Your name will be added to our database for inclusion in our mail outs, ensuring that
you receive a personal racing calendar and an entry form to all NZIRA competitions.
- A 20% discount off competition entry fees for members will apply to all regional and
national NZIRA competitions. It will not apply to Masters Games or international events.
The 20% discount will also apply to members attending NZIRA seminars.
- For clubs and other incorporated societies set up to function primarily as indoor
rowing organisations, associate membership of the NZIRA is essential if you intend to fund
raise through charitable trusts and community grants schemes. This is equally true for
individuals hoping to approach such bodies for financial support in attending out-of-town
or overseas indoor rowing competitions.
Paid up annual membership is effective from the first day of January in each year up
to and including the last day of December in that same year. Renewed or first time
memberships received over November/December 2005 will therefore take effect from 1 January
2006.
Fees are: $35-00 per annum for individuals and $60-00 per annum for clubs and
societies.
